GTCC, in cooperation with the German Embassy, GIZ, was invited by Walailak University and the Municipality of Thung Song to join a delegation trip to Inland Container Depot: ICD Thung Song City, located in Thung Song District, Nakhon Si Thammarat province on 6-7 December 2017 on “Sustainable Logistics management”.
The Inland Container Depot (ICD) is established to foster the business of the Southern part of Thailand and the economic development of clustering country namely IMG-GT (Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand) as it is connected with Thai railway stations in Surat Thani province, Nakhon Si Thammrat province, Patthalung Province and Kantang Pier in Trang province.
The advantage of railway transportation is the less cost of investment compared with that of the road transportation. Therefore, it will help reduce the cost of investment and increase competitiveness in the long-term. In addition, the positive environmental impact of the shift to rail transport could help to achieve the current goal of reduced CO2 emission.
Walailak University and Thung Song Municipality are interested in partnering with German companies of the logistic and environmental sector in order to develop the ICD in a more sustainable way – economically and ecologically. The representatives are offering to share information about their planning and are interested in exchanging ideas on how to adjust the current planning and implementation in order to create a framework that is attractive for international – especially German – investors.
