German-Thai Dual Excellence Education (GTDEE) is a vocational education and training (apprenticeship) programme in which apprentices work and study during the given period.
In 2013, the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) and German International Cooperation (GIZ) launched in co-operation with founding companies B.Grimm, BMW Thailand and Robert Bosch this dual vocational education and training (DVET) programme for Thailand. The main objective of GTDEE is to produce skilled workers with flexible qualifications who are mobile and capable of working in their chosen fields. GTDEE intends to share best practices from Germany‟s vocational education system as well.
Teaching of the knowledge, skills and competences needed for an occupation is based on the typical requirements of work and business processes and prepares the apprentices for a specific job. The training is provided in a company and at a vocational college. In the company, apprentices acquire practical skills in a real working environment. On one or two days per week (depends on the training plan of the company), apprentices attend part-time vocational college, where they are taught fundamental and vocational knowledge related to their training occupation.
The German DVET concept is remarkable successful and has been adopted in many countries all over the world, included Thailand.
GTDEE acts as the center, providing joining companies and the colleges with all types of required support throughout the programme. This co-operation is based on curricula and a general training plan, which are directly linked to each other. On the basis of this ordinance in vocational education and training, GTDEE has brought the PAL (Development Center and Examination Questions for technical vocational professions in Germany) examinations to Thailand. Apprentices have to acquire all job-relevant qualifications to graduate with a GTDEE Certificate that provides a premium standard from German. With this certificate, apprentices will become the highly-skilled professionals that companies are seeking.
GTDEE is supported by the Ministry of Education of Thailand and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Thailand. The legal framework for DVET in Thailand is provided by the Thailand Office of Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) and Thai Professional Qualification Institution (TPQI) which the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) is named as the relevant partner. In addition to that, GTDEE is even a part of the VETnet project (Vocational Education and Training Network) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and supported by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).
